Wisco Hotel Group Incorporates C-PACE & Clean Energy Updates in New Property
Building a stylish hotel with a great location, complimentary breakfast, and plenty of amenities for business and leisure travelers aren’t the only requirements for one hotel group these days. As part of a new business model, the Wisco Hotel Group is also incorporating solar energy and energy efficient upgrades in its new construction projects. Their investment in rooftop solar technology to reduce power consumption will allow their hotels to drastically slash energy costs, while going green.
Their latest project, the recently opened Fairfield Inn & Suites in Sheboygan, Wisconsin incorporated $450,000 in C-PACE financing from McFarland State Bank to fund energy saving measures. A 176 module rooftop solar photovoltaic system, installed by SunPeak, internal and exterior LED lighting, along with roof and wall upgrades were some of the measures implemented in the new construction. C-PACE financing makes it possible for commercial property owners to obtain low-cost, long-term financing for energy efficiency, water conservation and renewable energy projects
The hospitality market can reap substantial benefits from renewable energy. Lighting, HVAC and water heating accounts for 60% of the total hotel costs for a typical lodging facility. The U.S. Energy Star Program estimates that hotels spend approximately $2,196 per room a year on energy alone.
Dave Phaneuf, Vice President, Wisco Hotel Group explained, “With PACE financing the hotel can reduce the energy bills, as well as our carbon footprint.” He continued, “We are seeing guests increasingly demand hotels to be more sustainable and do what we can to be forward thinking stewards for the environment.”
Sheboygan County Administrator Adam Payne said hopefully this is the first of many PACE projects to come, “This is yet another tool and opportunity to enhance economic development. It’s a winner all around for the business community, our local economy, and our environment.”
The Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation, Sheboygan County and City of Sheboygan have worked in collaboration to inform local commercial property owners about the program. “This is just the beginning of many PACE projects for the county, and people will be talking,” shared Joseph Sheehan, Executive Director, Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation.
Tom Wegner, County Board Chair and PACE Wisconsin Commission Treasurer explained, “PACE is a program that empowers our commercial building owners to save energy and money, communities to create new jobs, all without any taxpayer dollars. I highly encourage more companies to look into this wonderful opportunity.”
Jason Stringer, PACE Wisconsin Administrator noted, “This is the first PACE project completed in Sheboygan County and PACE Wisconsin is pleased to be finding ways to help drive economic development and clean energy investment in Sheboygan County and the rest of the state.”
