Goose & Twig Inn Receives $147,191 in C-PACE Energy-Efficiency Financing
New inn prioritizes sustainability and will save thousands in energy costs each year
Madison, WI (October 9, 2019) Most inns can tout their high thread-count sheets and the best in amenities. Sister Bay’s new Goose & Twig Inn, at 2322 Mill Road, can compete with the best when it comes to luxurious comfort. But it also offers guests something even more important: the latest in energy-efficient features. Nearly $150,000 in affordable financing through the C-PACE program gave the newly constructed inn a cost-effective way to incorporate seven Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs). That investment will create annual energy savings of nearly $6,000.
Goose & Twig has two buildings—a five-unit space and one with four units. Total square footage is 5,012 square feet, including a 1,166 sq. foot café/retail space. The entire facility has been built to Energy Star® criteria, which means it’s been verified to meet strict energy-efficiency standards set by the U.S. Department of Energy.
The Inn’s energy conservation measures include: attic and wall insulation, high-efficiency windows and heating and cooling systems, an energy recovery ventilator, photovoltaic solar panels and low-flow plumbing fixtures.
“If you are committed to the planet, your choices have to show it. Every part of our building construction kept that in mind,” explained Gustavo Gallardo, the owner of the Goose & Twig Inn. “PACE was a great source of funding for someone trying to do things differently. I was excited to take advantage of the PACE Program to cover energy project costs, it really seemed too good to be true. As a small business, I appreciated being able to use PACE,” he continued.
Greenworks Lending provided financing the C-PACE part of the project. Gerard Neely, New Markets Transaction Manager, Greenworks Lending explained, “The Goose and Twig project illustrates how developers wanting to go above and beyond can use C-PACE to achieve their sustainability goals. It’s also a great example of how C-PACE is applicable for businesses across Wisconsin, not just in the large communities.”
C-PACE Wisconsin is a statewide program that enables commercial property owners to obtain low-cost, long-term financing for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water conservation improvements. “We’re seeing a big uptick in hospitality venues incorporating energy efficiency into their design,” said Jason Stringer, Program Administrator, PACE Wisconsin. “These businesses want to be good stewards and their guests are actively looking for facilities that make these kinds of commitments.”
